of the modern world: 3G wireless routers.  I plug in my USB modem stick thingie, and somehow it changes our tiny apartment into a Magical Place.  (Magical Places can be defined as those spaces that have wireless internet.)  And it cost 35 pounds sterling after shipping, which took about three days after the time I ordered it.  And for the first time in a long time, Jenn can chat with her friends and relatives on Skype without, uh, somebody breathing down her neck.  Instead, that somebody is vegging on the couch with his netbook, apparently studying (all the lecture notes are online)
